Our summer training schedule runs from June until August. During this time, team practices with coaches are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, starting June 13th at 7 am. We meet at the Hidden Grove Pavilion in Sugar House Park on the East side, just below the Highland driving range.
August 1st we will begin daily training with Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays still in the morning, and Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon for heat acclimation, as many races are in the afternoon. Athletes must attend two full weeks of practice before they can participate in a race.
The emphasis during summer training is on building a base of long-distance running. By the end of the summer, all runners should be up to 25 - 45 miles per week. We also use this time period to introduce some of the key concepts of our training routine, including speed work, tempo runs, Fartlek training, hill running and strength training.
